Friends of Oak Island Society

Important Tour Announcement

In light of recent events, the Friends of Oak Island Society Directors are unanimous in their determination to support EVERYONE who purchased tickets through the fake Eventbrite site; these would be tickets purchased between September 2018 and February 2019.

This decision will inevitably increase the total number of visitors on our tours and we are working hard to accommodate this.

There are TWO scenarios we have uncovered in relation to bookings made between September 2018 and February 2019, as a direct result of the fake site activity:

Scenario 1 – None of your bookings appear in our official EventBrite site. We are going to honour all of the bookings that were made through the fake site, with proof of the original documentation you received (such as an EventBrite booking number you received from the scam site, and a proof of your purchase.)

Scenario 2 – Only SOME of your bookings appear in our official site. We have learned that the individual running the fake site was later sliding *some* of the scam ticket bookings into our official site. As an example: you booked 6 tickets through the fake site and you are logging into our official site and seeing you have two valid bookings. We will honour all of the bookings you made, with proof of the original documentation you received (such as an EventBrite booking number you received from the scam site, and proof of your purchase.)

In both instances, please ensure you have all the supporting documentation available to present at the gate on the day/time of your tour. It would help us dramatically if we were able to compile a list in advance of who to expect. Please email your supporting documentation to tours@friendsofoakisland.com to assist us with this.

Please be aware that FOIS did not receive money for tickets purchased through the fake EventBrite site. Whether you used PayPal, credit card or if you made an etransfer to our email address, IT APPEARS THESE MONIES WERE DIRECTED INTO ANOTHER ACCOUNT.

FOIS maintains the right to turn away anyone we suspect is trying to take advantage of this situation by presenting themselves as a victim of the scam without credible proof (such as proof of original documents you received, proof of payment, supporting emails) of having made a booking through the fake site.

The FOIS Board of Directors is overwhelmed by the positive and supportive comments we have read from all of you on social media and through emails. We feel energized and ready to move forward. Our mandate has always been to promote tours and share the history of a truly remarkable place that we love – and we will not stop now.

Thank you for keeping the faith.

The Friends of Oak Island Society (FOIS) is a non-profit organization founded in 2010 with a mission to foster historical interest in Oak Island. Our first public tours were offered in the Summer of 2010, and since then FOIS has been proud to play an important role in not only promoting the Island, but in in promoting the beautiful South Shore of Nova Scotia.

Part of The Friends of Oak Island Society’s tremendous success lies in its dedicated and amazing team of local volunteers. From our Board of Directors, to our Tour Escorts, to the Gift Shop Staff Рvolunteers are at the heart of everything we do!

FOIS is extremely proud of developments and enhancements it has made over the years, continually striving to create the best possible visitor experience. FOIS was also instrumental in the establishment of a Visitor Centre which has since grown into the Oak Island Interpretative Centre.
